Whirlpool is a bit of an institution. It kicked off in the late 90s as a scrappy Australian site tracking ADSL rollouts, and somehow morphed into one of the country's busiest discussion communities. Broadband gripes, NBN speculation, phone plans, PC builds, even career advice; if Aussies argue about it, there's a thread for it. The design is gloriously old-school. No bloat, no autoplay videos, just fast-loading text. Volunteers moderate it, ISP reps actually show up to answer questions, and the regulars don't suffer fools gladly. It works.
